BACKGROUND TO PATTAYA
Pattaya lies 150km to the southeast of Bangkok, less than two hours by road, and stretches for some 15 km along the Eastern Seaboard coast. It is Thailand’s largest resort.
With the opening of the New Bangkok Airport called 'Suvarnabhumi' and the upgrading of the motorway, Pattaya is only about one hour from the main international airport.
Back in the 1960s Pattaya was just a little fishing village, then slowly residents from Bangkok started to come for their weekends and so started a local tourist industry, it wasn't until the Vietnam War started that Pattaya started to have an international reputation.
Pattaya is now a city in its own right, with its own Mayor and administration. The Eastern Seaboard Area has now become a major base for industrial and commercial development, twenty kilometers away there is a new deep-sea port called Laem Chabang plus a large industrial estate. Pattaya City is therefore well located as a major business center serving these new developments. There are five international schools and four international hospitals in the area, all of a high reputation
